Four Express 37s competed in Berkeley Yacht Club’s Big Windward Leeward Regatta on September 9, 2023. It was a fun and simple race with two long legs. The race began off of the Berkeley Pier with one rounding at Point Bonita and then straight back to Berkeley Yacht Club for libations! Snowy Owl and Spindrift were locked in close combat for the majority of the race, with Snow Owl forcing Spindrift over the line at the start, and then holding on to her lead for most of the race. The indomitable Andy Schwenk and his crew of 26 (ok, that’s an exaggeration, but it was a pretty packed deck!) flew like Phaethon on the downwind leg to snatch victory from the beak of the Owl! Golden Moon crossed the line next, with Eclipse crossing fourth.
After the race, the fleet rafted up and enjoyed each other’s company and the great view from the Berkeley Yacht Club’s bar. Thank you to the Berkeley Yacht Club for being such gracious hosts!
