Celebrating Excellence: Express 37 Trophy Presentation
In a heartwarming ceremony, the Express 37 Class Association honored the remarkable achievements of its members for their recent success during the 2024-25 season. Mike Laport and Mike Spitz, the skippers of Golden Moon, brought home the season championship trophy (followed by a long discussion of where to put an additional brass plaque considering that we ran out of room years ago). Heidi Hall and Mark Chaffey, skippers of Loca Motion, brought home the esteemed and treasured Timex Trophy for their victory in the Rolex Big Boat Series. According to a helpful but stilted AI agent, “The event featured two standout moments captured in photographs: proud sailors receiving their well-deserved trophies. These images encapsulate the spirit of camaraderie and competition that defines our community. Each trophy represents not just a victory, but the dedication and passion that our sailors bring to the water. Join us in celebrating these exceptional individuals and their contributions to the sport.”
Heidi Hall and Mark Chaffey enthralled with their Timex Perpetual Trophy. It needs a new battery, but hey, you can’t have everything. Dave Anderson, on the right, iis trying to trade another version of the E37 BBS Trophy with them because he digs the watch.
Pac Cup begins today, July 11th.
The Pacific Cup race from San Francisco to Hawaii begins today, with the first in a series of starts throughout the week.
This year the Alaska Airlines class, starting Tuesday the 12th at 11:25, will feature no less than four Express 37’s: Bullet, Elan, One Eyed Jack, and Limitless.
Express 37’s have enjoyed an excellent record in this race with division wins for Elan in 2000/2012, and Bullet taking home the prize in 2008. With four boats on the line this year it should make 2016 a great one to watch!

Élan wins OYRA title for 3rd year running
Élan continued to secure their offshore legacy by successfully defending their 2013 and 2014 OYRA PHRO2 titles with another victory in 2015… they also saw triumph in the 2015 Spinnaker Cup! Results here

2015 Express 37 Nationals report & photos
Big breeze and big fun greeted the Express 37 fleet at this years nationals, hosted by Berkeley Yacht Club.
Racers saw three days of racing with five typically close buoy races and finishes often separated by seconds. Saturday’s second race sent the fleet out and around Pt. Bonita in spectacular conditions, 20 ft. waves and gusts to 37kts made this one that will be talked about for years to come! Boats reported top speeds over 17kts on the ride in… under white sails!
Golden Moon snatched back 1st for the regatta after being bested by Eclipse in the Rolex Big Boat Series two weeks prior. Race organization, hospitality, and food at BYC were top notch, great times had by all!

SFYC Summer Keel wraps up…
Expeditious cleans up with four bullets and a sixth for their first regatta win of the season!
Unseasonably warm temps led many crew to race in shorts and t-shirts… a luxury for SF bay summer sailing. Despite the almost tropical temperatures, the typical sea breeze built both days until genoas were traded for jibs and spray began to cool down hard working crew. Close racing was seen throughout, with a number of overlapped finishes seen throughout the fleet. Fun party afterwards at SFYC too! (The beer was free!)

2015 Express 37 Nationals
The venue will again be Berkeley Yacht Club, where we all had such a great time last year! Race dates have been confirmed as Friday, October 2nd through Sunday, October 4th. Let’s see 10 boats on the line this year!
